I use liquid foundation that will last me a long time and will give me a medium to full coverage. However before I apply my foundation, I always use a primer.
A primer is a formula that acts as a protective barrier between your skin and your foundation. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and acne scars, fills in the tiny crevices of your face, smoothes out the appearance of your skin, and helps your make up set and stay longer throughout the day.
I have 3 primers that I bought and use interchangeably because the texture of my skin changes with the weather. The best primer to use is always one that is light weight, non-comedogenic, and oil free. Here’s a review of 3 of them.
SMASHBOX Photo Finish Foundation Primer LIGHT
Pros: This primer is water based and infused with Vitamin C. Perfect for any skin type and weather. It helps reduce the appearance of my acne scars on my temples and cheeks. It fills them in well. It also reduces the appearance of my pores around my nose. It doesn’t dry out my skin or make my face oily than it already is and it can last me about 12 hours. My skin looks smooth. Since it is light weight, applying this is easy and blends well with my foundation. It has a thin formula when it comes out from the tube and glides on my face without effort.
Cons:It’s $36.00 for a 1 Fluid Oz. tube. It absorbs quickly on the skin so you have to work fast. It doesn’t have a ‘natural’ look if you’d like to use it everyday.
e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer
Pros:It’s $6.00 for a .49 oz. bottle pump. It has a silicone-type texture. It doesn’t cause me breakouts or pimples. Makeup stays long for about 3-6 hours. It gives a satin-like finish. Good for everyday use. They have a variety for your needs such has hydrating, tone correcting, radiant glow, and even clear.
Cons:It doesn’t fill in my acne scars as much. I have to put more on my face than Smashbox’s because the consistency is like a gel. You constantly have to blot your face every hour since it doesn’t combat the oil all the way. The packaging isn’t very durable. When you run empty and look inside (when you open the pump), you’ll see a little bit more that could be used but not able to reach the pump itself. Since it’s only half of an ounce, it didn’t last more than 2 months or maybe even 1 month.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Primer Skin Transformer
Pros: It’s $9.00 at a local drugstore. It is also a silicone base primer. It fills in the scars and minimizes the appearance of my pores. Makeup can stay from 3-6 hours. It gives a dewy finish. It’s easy to apply and goes on smooth.
Cons:It claims to have a subtle pink glow but it doesn’t. It makes your face feel oily after 3 hours. You need to constantly blot your face.
BENEFIT COSMETICS The POREfessional Face Primer
Pros: This is one of my favorites. It is easy to blend and smooth to the touch. It's good for dry skin and doesn't make me oily. It hides my big pores which help with oil control and diminishes the appearance of my pores around my cheeks. It gives a matte look.
Cons:It doesn’t stay long, maybe about 3-5 hours. And the price is $31 (0.75 fl.oz).
