My acne journey has consisted of its many ups and downs and highs and lows. At times I have wanted to blame it all on my genetics, my diet, lack of a skincare routine and even myself, but I’ve learned over the last 8 years that it just comes with being a teenager.
When you’re in high school it can be a really intimidating place. Not everyone shares the whole “We’re all in this together” high school musical- esque attitude with each other. You tend to see tons of people every day that are of different shape, size and colour.
And every day comes with the hope that one day you’ll be able to fit in. Not because the other kids don’t accept you, but because you can’t seem to accept yourself.
I find it especially hard to talk to people one on one with my acne.
I tend to feel restricted, and continuously feel the need to hold back because of the way I look.
I could be talking to anyone, whether it be a teacher, a peer or even a family member it always feels like they are having a conversation with my zits as oppose to with me. The Aczone acne treatment commercial with the mirrors (if you have ever seen it you’ll totally understand) is an accurate representation of how I feel on a daily basis. But the messed up part is that they could probably care less, yet I make it out to be a bigger deal than it needs to be.
But, the worst part of all is the jealousy that comes along with acne. It is a horrible emotion to experience, but it never comes from a place of hate.
I’m not going to lie when I say that I feel envious towards someone that I come across with baby smooth skin, and that’s only because of how badly I want that for myself one day.
As tough as acne can be, it is the scarring I feel, that is more hurtful throughout the process. Although scars may fade over time, they are never ever completely gone, and I feel that with every scar that is left behind, it acts as an emotional reminder of the pain that the acne may have caused.
But, I also think that every scar acts as a reminder of your journey and how far you’ve come! So stay strong Banish-sters xo!
