Stress can definitely have an effect on acne, I’ve seen it happen to myself. On days where I’m going through it, or stressful periods of time, my acne definitely increases. In order to avoid that, it’s really important to create an environment of peace and love around you.
I’m a big believer in energy and the way it influences things. I think that our internal state influences the environment around us and vice versa, so it’s super important to cultivate positivity in your heart and mind as well as surround yourself with it. It can be as simple as cleaning your room or as big shutting yourself off from the world for a day or two, which is something I’ve definitely done.
In the past six months I’ve really focused on creating a positive and loving environment internally and externally and I really believe it’s made a difference, not only in my skin but in my general wellbeing. Here’s some things I’ve learned to do:
Clean your room. Whether you believe it or not, simple things like a cluttered room can actually affect how you feel. I know that when my room is clean and clutter-free, I feel so much more at peace and have so much more creativity. I swear I can even think more clearly.
Redecorate your room. Put up Christmas lights (they’re super cheap and give your room great ambience). Do some DIY collages and hang them up on your wall. Get some plants to give your room some life; cacti are great because they actually suck up toxins from the air. Get some fluffy comfy pillows and a big fluffy blanket. Light some candles in a scent that you really like. Print out your favorite quote and pin it up. Create a mood board or a fashion inspiration board.
Do a social media fast. Social media plays a huge role in our lives in this age. I think there’s a whole bunch of great things about social media, like connection and inspiration, but I also think there are a lot of negative things about it. I often feel really insecure looking at all the beautiful girls on Instagram/Tumblr/Twitter/Snapchat, and I think overtime that can develop into something unhealthy. There’s nothing wrong with being inspired or motivated but it’s good to take a few days away from your phone to just experience the world around you. From personal experience, there’s so much freedom in not being tied down to your phone.
Do a “desert day”. I think it’s really important to be comfortable with yourself and being alone. Take a day where you turn off your phone and computer and just be with yourself. Watch movies, make good food, a smoothie, bake some cookies. Pamper yourself! Take a bath with Epsom salts, paint your nails, do a DIY face mask. Go to the gym. Just be with yourself and enjoy yourself, at least for a day!
Determine your influences. Who is influencing your life? What kind of energy do they bring into your life? Sometimes we just need to time focus on ourselves and figure out what we believe without any influence of friends. What do you believe for you? I know that was something I didn’t know how to answer a year ago. Half the things I believed in or advocated were because someone else approved it. What resonates with your soul? Also, what effect do your friends have on you? If it’s negative, maybe it’s time to cut them out, at least for a little while, until you know how to maintain your own positive environment.
It’s so important to be happy. Life is too short to be stressed and confused and upset, so take some time to destress your life and cultivate an environment of peace, love, and positivity. I know that it’s worked for me and my life is better because of it. I hope these tips work for you like they did for me!
