I’m not much of a makeup person, despite my various attempts to become one.
I don’t know what baking is and I consider my oily face to be a natural highlighter. In spite of my severe ignorance when it comes to the majority of the makeup world, there is one product that I’ve become overtly acquainted with.
From ColourPop to NYX Cosmetics to Coloured Raine to Anastasia Beverly Hills, I’ve tried them all. Same shades, different brands. Different shades, same brands. Liquid lipsticks are my obsession and reason for being in life.
For those who haven’t caught on to the amazing trend of liquid lipsticks, they’re made of a particular formula that offers intense, long-lasting pigment with a matte finish. The uniqueness of liquid lipsticks seems to transcend my indifference to makeup.
Personally, my favorite brand is ColourPop: they have durable, vibrant pigments for inexpensive means.
I’ve gotten deeply offended when someone asked me what the difference between Dose of Color’s Chocolate Wasted and ColourPop’s Limbo was. Don’t you see the warm pigments in Limbo compared to the muted pigments in Chocolate Wasted? How could you not understand that Limbo is a summer lipstick and Chocolate Wasted is a fall lipstick?
My long lasting obsession with liquid lipstick has caused serious tensions with friends, family, and my bank account. Like I said earlier, I’m not a makeup person.
Because I don’t leave the house with a full contour and flawless eyebrows, my liquid lipstick has to stand on its own and support the entire look of the day. So when I leave the house, I always make sure that the application of my liquid lipstick is perfect. I have the process down to a perfect science.
First, I make sure that I stay well hydrated at all times because the first place that dehydration shows up is on the lips. If you aren’t properly hydrated, your liquid lipstick application will suffer.
Secondly, always make sure your lips are well exfoliated before applying anything to them. Not only does this give the liquid lipstick a clean and smooth base, it is also a surefire way to ensure that your lips won’t flake after the long wear.
Next, take the hydration to the next level! Prime your lips with an oil based chapstick: liquid lipstick is known to be very drying and your lips need to be very moisturized before application.
Next, and this part is optional, line your lips and fill in the wrinkles with a pencil that matches your color of choice. This prevents the lipstick from settling into the lines, which maximizes the wear and appearance.
Finally, apply your liquid lipstick, making sure not to rub your lips together, and enjoy a flawless lip look!
