It was summer 2015 and all my friends were hitting me up asking to hang out. I began with just making excuses. I would say I was sick, or I had to go somewhere or even my parents wouldn’t let me out. I was just so uncomfortable in my skin that I did not want to leave the house. When I did leave the house I always wore a ton of makeup which was not helpful either because it would just irritate my acne and make it worse. My family had noticed that I stopped going out and realized that I had become very quiet and depressed.
Just a little background on me: I was the very loud one in the family. I love going out and hanging with my friends. I love going to the mall. I am a very extrovert person and now that I was battling acne it changed me completely. My mom and sister had suggested that I try proactive since so many people had sworn by it. I felt I had nothing to loose so I gave it a try. I used it for about 2 weeks and noticed that it was drying out my skin way too much. It did help minimize the size of my pimples but made my skin so dry that when I applied my foundation it was flaky. It didn’t work, once again I was devastated and left thinking if my acne would ever go away.
I then decided to search products online. I came across a few and decided to give them a go. The first product I used was Neutrogena acne stress control cleanser. This product made my skin feel silky smooth and I felt I had cured my acne. Sadly, that was not the case and the cleanser did help for a few days, however, it eventually made no difference once my skin had become immune to it.
Once again I was back to the drawing board and on the search for another product that would help me. I searched through acne forums and YouTube videos. I realized there was a lot more to curing my acne than what cleanser I used. I had to change up my routine, which I did and it made the biggest difference. Although the acne itself was clearing up what was being left behind was something I was not prepared for at all.
