Why is it that the months of October, November, and December pass by the fastest of the entire year? I’ll give you a hint, the end of October marks the start of the holiday season. Coincidentally, it also parallels with the start of exams if you’re still in school.
Anyways, have you ever heard of that saying “Time flies when you’re having fun”? It also flies by very fast when you’re running around trying to find the perfect Halloween costume; driving back and forth to the grocery store because you forgot that special ingredient for the cranberry sauce and you can’t handle your mother’s nagging; avoiding the big Black Friday fights; wrapping presents; and planning that New Year party.
My main point here is that the end of October also marks the start of stress zits, hormonal zits, regular zits, you name it. It can be hard to be cheerful for the holidays when your skin isn’t cheerful. That is exactly why I’ve come up with a cheat sheet for surviving the holidays as best as you can.
First, always always always drink your water. Our bodies are 60 percent water and water intake contributes to energy levels and brain function. Being well hydrated can also decrease how prone you are to getting headaches and boost metabolism.
Second, make sure to eat your veggies and get exercise. The benefits of these actions shouldn’t have to be said, but many people get caught up in their hectic lives and forget to take care of themselves, especially during the holiday season.
That being said, in between all of the duties and tasks that you have to complete in those last three months of the year, you should find time to take care of yourself. Maybe it’s a short walk, or maybe it’s a shopping spree, whatever it is, it’s very necessary.
Personally, my self-timeout involves pampering and living the lavish life. I’ve worked out my routine so that I get to pamper myself at least once a week. Every Sunday night, I put on a very pink and very fluffy robe and pick out a random face mask. It’s actually a Sunday as I write this, and in just a little bit I’m going to try out Feeling Beautiful’s 4-in-1 Apple Cider Vinegar Foaming Clay Mask, put my feet up, drink a homemade chai tea latte, and rewatch a couple episodes of Gossip Girl.
These all seem like basic distressing methods, but sometimes it’s hard to get back to the basics.
