The clogged pores and breakouts we get on our back and chest are unsightly and can leave scars. Most of the time it’s nothing we did wrong. The pimples we get in these areas are deep and stubborn, and more likely to leave marks behind. This can have us avoiding backless tops all summer.
But just like those on our face, acne scars on back and chest areas are no match for the right treatment.
If you want to get rid of the acne scars on back, chest, and other parts of your body, use the same things you use on your face. On the plus side, the skin in these areas is tougher and can handle stronger products.
EXFOLIATE AWAY ACNE SCARS ON BACK
Exfoliation can go a long way in reducing the appearance of blemishes left behind by acne.
Including exfoliation in your routine helps shed dead skin cells and encourage healthier ones to surface. Although this won’t get rid of the scars altogether, it can help improve their appearance over time.
Vitamin C Serum
Vitamin C is a star player for so many skin issues because it does so much for our skin’s health and appearance.
Vitamin C works by brightening scars and blocking abnormal pigment production. This reduces the appearance of dark marks, and will also smooth out scars by promoting collagen production and healing.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Rosehip seed oil is always my favorite and is one of the reasons the Banish Oil works so well.
Rosehip seed oil is a natural source of trans-retinoic acid, which is effective at fighting skin discoloration caused by scarring. Rubbing it on the skin can help lighten and soften these blemishes.
You can also use pure rosehip oil, which can even help mastectomy and c-section scars!
If rosehip seed oil isn’t strong enough for your stubborn acne scars, you can always try a synthetic version with a higher concentration.
Retinoids, powerful enemies to acne scars on back and chest areas, have a similar molecular structure to vitamin A.
Retinoids work by increasing skin cell turnover. This pushes out discolored cells and smooths out rough texture. They’re also great at fighting acne, so you can safely use them to treat both issues!
OTHER SKIN ACIDS FOR ACNE SCARS ON BACK
Alpha hydroxy acids are also amazing for reducing scarring on the body! They work by shedding dead skin cells, promoting healing, and keeping skin moisturized.
AHAs coupled with salicylic acid will spell double trouble for acne scars on back and chest areas. The acids will improve acne scars deep within the pore and on the surface of the skin.
For a more dramatic improvement, you can try at-home chemical peels in higher concentrations.
MICRONEEDLING ACNE SCARS ON BACK
Microneedling offers a unique way to tackle acne scars that are on your back, chest, and body.
MY RECOMMENDATION: COMBINATION THERAPY
Combination therapy works better than monotherapy, at least when done properly. This means using various methods to tackle stubborn acne scars on back, chest, and other body parts.
My favorite approach is:
- Microneedling once every 2 weeks
- Vitamin C product like the Banish Oil every day
- Retinoids and acids twice a week (not when microneedling)
This combination therapy tackles acne scars in several ways and ensures you have the best chance of clearing scars on your body.
IF THESE DON'T WORK...
There are always other options. If your acne scars on back and chest are resistant to the treatments listed, laser and other therapy possibilities are available.
Also remember to use sunscreen every day, as it will prevent your scars from darkening and appearing worse.
In just a few weeks of following a regimen, you should begin to see improvements. Reducing the appearance of acne scars on back and chest is well within your reach if you plan and stick to it!
