How To Make Your Skin Glow With a Simple Shopping Spree

Throughout the week, I receive various compliments about how my style is so flattering and fashion forward. I thank them and laugh it off, grateful that no one has seen through my trickery.

When it comes to style, I have one budget friendly and efficient method of appearing high fashion and put together: know your season.

And when I say know your season, I don’t mean figuring out what season represents your temperament or personality. I’m talking about knowing what colors look good on you based on your skin tone. Ever since I figured out that I actually look better in clothes that had warmer undertones, shopping got easier and compliments came faster.

None of this is to say that you should abandon colors that don’t compliment your skin tone (I still adore the way I look in black clothing!) It’s just to say that there are colors out there that will bring out and enhance the natural colors in your skin tone and it can be a real game changer if you know what they are.

For me, it’s a matter of confidence. Even if I have a zit or if my winged eyeliner didn’t come out quite right or my lipstick is a bit smudged, my skin still glows because the colors I’m wearing reflect its undertones.

I personally don’t wear makeup, but choosing the right foundations and concealers correlates with your skin undertones.

If you’ve never looked into finding out your skin tone or your seasons, there’s a ton of information on the internet.

Initially, it can be hard to determine exactly what your skin tone is, but don’t be discouraged! It’ll take time and patience, but trying out colors is the best part! I would recommend starting off with some quizzes to get a general feel for what your skin tone could be (here’s a short one from Seventeen magazine and here’s a short one from Pop Sugar); playing with different looks and styles; and then if you want to get even more complex you can check out what your season is!

For a quick guide to what colors to wear: cool skin tones will look best with colors that reflect their undertones, such as muted blues, pinks, and lilacs. Warm skin tones will look best with colors that reflect their undertones, such as earthy oranges, golds, and reds. Neutral skin tones can navigate colors from either family!
