I drink lemon water every morning. I must say that lemon water benefits for skin are really worth the diligence. Lemon can be used for cleaning but has really lots of uses these days.
You could just squeeze the lemon juice in your water if you want. However, you can maximize the benefits by incorporating the zest and the actual lemon. When I make my lemon water, I start with a 32-ounce mason jar. I zest a whole lemon and place the zest in the jar. I then cut the lemon in half and squeeze both halves of juice in the jar. Lastly, I drop the lemon halves in the jar and fill up the rest of the jar with water. I let it sit for a while and drink it later.
The most beneficial time to drink lemon water is in the morning on an empty stomach.

It aids digestion; thanks to the abundance of minerals and vitamins in lemons. The vitamins and minerals help loosen toxins in the digestive tract. It also aids weight loss. Since it can relieve gingivitis and tooth pain, it has dental benefits too.
The citric acid in lemons can be harmful to your teeth. Citric acid can erode tooth enamel. It is best to brush your teeth then drink lemon water. The acidity of lemons has an upside though, as it helps to freshen your breath. It also balances your pH levels, ironically enough. Lemons alkalize your body, believe it or not. In a nutshell, lemons are acidic outside of our bodies. Inside of our bodies, the minerals in the lemon break down and make it alkaline. When our bodies are acidic, they are more prone to disease.
Just a few tips:
- lemon water is best at room temperature or warm (avoid making it hot and cold)
- use filtered water
- use fresh and organic lemons (if possible)
- don't make the lemon water too strong
- under 68 kilograms or 150 pounds, use half a lemon's worth of juice in a glass of water
- over 68 kilograms or 150 pounds, use a full lemon's worth of juice in a glass of water
