In this post, I am going to talk about my acne and acne scars, which I have dealt with for a long time. I had very sparse acne in certain parts of my face. As said before the peak of it was in the summer and it was on my forehead. I didn’t have cystic acne but rather a mild acne. I had a lot of whiteheads as well. Whiteheads are when comedones are closed on the skin. It is when there are dirt and oil build up and it creates a puss on top of the skin making it look white.
When I saw a number of whiteheads, I needed to pop them. I couldn’t have a white puss filled a pimple sitting on my face like that. I popped as soon as I saw there was puss in them. Sometimes it was easy to pop, other times it was much harder. Those harder times included ones that really hurt and were really large. This is what really caused my scarring.
I was never afraid to pop my pimples. I know that it is advised to just leave the pimple and it will go away in a couple days. Something you should know about me is that I am a very impatient person. I can’t wait a couple days. I wanted the pimple to go away as soon as possible so the only way to do this was to pop it.
Once I popped it, I would ice the pimple to get rid of the redness. I, then, noticed that there would be a small scab in the area that the pimple was the next day. I would pick the scab. More scabs would occur in the same spot and I would do the same thing constantly, pick the scab. This is where I think my scarring came from. The kind of scarring I have is post-inflammatory pigmentation. My scars would start off reddish and then turn brown because I have darker skin. My scars aren’t deep but rather, they sit on top of my skin.
I have the scars currently on the sides of my cheeks. I think I got my acne here because of my hair and my phone. Often I would put the dirty phone onto my ear and it would cause me to break out there. Also, the oils in my hair would transfer to my skin causing breakouts.
After recognizing all these causes of my acne and acne scars, I am positive that with a proper skincare, a positive attitude and the right skincare product I will be well on my way to clearer and better skin.
