I suffered from acne for a little over 2 years but that was enough to bring me down and hate myself. I hated going outside because of it and I lacked confidence which made life harder for me since I loved singing and theater. But that feeling is also what drove me to think that I shouldn’t tolerate this and instead, should find ways to get rid of it and that’s why right now, I only have a few acne scars and no more acne. I did a lot of things to get rid of acne in 2 months and I’m going to share with you what I did. These are a few acne tips for those of you out there who are suffering the same way I did. I hope that this will be useful and that you’ll get through what you are going through right now.
1. Find a Good Morning and Night Skincare Routine and Stick to it.
You’ve probably heard this a lot but it’s true. You have to look for a good skincare routine for after waking up and before going to bed. Out of experience, I’ve learned that all the products out there actually work but make sure that they work for YOUR skin. I cannot stress this enough. You have to know what kind of skin you have and find the right products for it. If you have oily skin, use oil-free products. Make sure that you use a 3-method-skincare routine. Start off with a cleanser, then a toner and lastly, a moisturizer. And use this twice every single day. Because trust me, no matter how great the product you're using, it won’t work if you don’t do it every day. Consistency is key.
2. Exfoliate at least 3 times a Week
Our skin naturally peels off to renew itself and that cycle lasts at least 28 days when we were babies. It gets slower as we get older. By exfoliating 3 times a week, you are helping your skin renew it self and get the dead skin out and make room for the new skin. This also cleans out the dead skin which is trapped in your pores together with sebum and bacteria which causes acne. What I do is I use an exfoliant that is good for my skin 3-4 times a week. You should not overdo exfoliating because too much will cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil and this leads to more acne.
3. Exercise and Manage a Healthy Diet
This is something that I find really hard since I’m not a morning person but even so, try waking up early every day and exercise for at least 30 minutes to an hour. Make sure you drink enough water to cover up for the 2.5 liters of liquid your body loses daily from sweating, peeing and pooping. Stop eating junk foods. You should always eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals and will give your body the nutrients it needs. I make sure that I eat a variety of foods daily and I don’t just eat salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because a short research that I did lead me to find out that the wider the variety of a diet, the better it is at keeping the person healthy.
4. Go All- Natural in Cleaning your Face and Try Starting internally
I started adding coconut oil and apple cider vinegar to my diet when I found out all about their benefits for my body’s internal needs in terms of nutrients and vitamins and organ system functions. I already didn’t have any more breakouts at this point but I decided to avoid having any future ones by cleaning myself. And I wanted to start the clean-up process from inside. So, I infused a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in my water and drank this daily and I took a tablespoon of organic coconut oil every morning before exercising. I’ve been doing this for less than a year now and I haven’t gotten sick so I completely recommend you look for something natural and good for you and that you stick with it.
5. Believe in Yourself and Know that You are Beautiful
This is something that took me a while to realize and understand. I have peers who are close to me and before they didn’t have acne, now they do and I realized that even when they didn’t have acne, I still found them to be the most beautiful creatures. But you have to know that I found them beautiful because of who they are – not because of their skin. I realized that even if a person does have acne or acne scars, that doesn’t make them less of a human being or worthy of being looked down on because their skin doesn’t really show their story. The friends that I’m talking about who right now have acne, are still beautiful to me because of who they are as a person. They are kind, funny and they were there for me when I was at my lowest points. So, I guess out of the experience, you shouldn’t let your acne get the best of you. You should always be the best version of yourself even if you have a pimple on the center of your nose because chances are, that pimple will disappear. But the chances that you have to grab the opportunities in front of you, they aren’t going to stay there if you lack the confidence and self-love to take them. So yes, it’s a cliché but it’s true, you should love yourself.
So, there it is, my 5 acne tips on how I got from having a lot of acne to no more of it. I could tell you more tips like don’t pop a zit and not to touch your face but you already know that. You may have already known the others on my list. My last advice is to discipline yourself so you won’t have to make your skin worst. And again, love yourself… but don’t tolerate, instead, find ways to become a better version of yourself.
