Like most college students, I am a caffeine addict. You can usually always find me on the campus’ trendy coffee shop sipping on a latte and doing homework. However, lately, I have begun to divert my caffeine cravings towards herbal teas. I still am a coffee lover at heart, but through research, I have found so many benefits to drinking herbal teas. They not just satisfy my cravings, but they also make me feel more relaxed and hydrated. Through my research, I have also learned that many teas have different properties. Here are some of my favorite herbal teas and their benefits.
• Green Tea Green tea is by far one of my favorite teas. With its high antioxidant levels, it helps reduce free radicals as well as promote healthy cell growth. I also like to enjoy my cup of green tea in the morning as it also has natural caffeine.
• Black Tea Many people enjoy their cup of black tea iced and with sugar, however hot black tea with a slice of lemon is even better in my opinion. Black tea regulates blood sugar levels and is also known to lower the risk of heart disease.
• Oolong Tea Oolong tea is also known as the “skinny” tea because it helps with weight management. Oolong tea is also used to improve mental alertness and sharpen thinking skills.
• Peppermint Tea Peppermint tea is my go to anytime I am feeling under the weather. Since it is an anti-inflammatory and a decongestant, it’s great for clearing up any bad cold. Peppermint tea also can control snack cravings by suppressing the appetite.
• Chamomile Tea I like to enjoy a cup of chamomile tea at night because it is a wonderful natural sleep aid. Chamomile also has antibacterial properties and can be used to alleviate an upset stomach.
• Hibiscus Tea Hibiscus tea is perfect hot or cold in the summer. It is very refreshing and also high in antioxidants that fight free radicals. Hibiscus tea is also a natural diuretic, therefore can be used for cleanses.
• Dandelion Tea Dandelion tea is great natural allergy reliever. It also stimulates digestion and can help combat the formation of kidney stones.
• Cinnamon and Vanilla Tea Cinnamon and vanilla tea is another herbal tea that is high in antioxidants. It also promotes the production of collagen so that your skin is plump and hydrated.
I like to enjoy my cup of herbal tea either as it is or with honey and a splash of almond milk. No matter how you take it, sip away your ailments with the benefits of herbal tea.
