If you are dealing with acne, odds are you have become a master at covering up pimples with makeup. I know personally I made it my mission to learn how to cover up a zit so well that no one could tell I had a face full of red pimples underneath my perfectly powdered face. It’s really stressful trying to cover up your face day in and day out, but for some of us we feel it’s necessary to wear makeup to feel confident.
The worst part is, healing acne means wearing as little makeup as possible and as infrequently as possible. That is why I committed myself to wearing makeup only when I found it necessary and wow, did my skin improve. There are certain no-no’s when it comes to wearing makeup because if committed these makeup sins will only make your skin worse.
Do Not Sleep In Your Makeup - When I first started dating my boyfriend I did not want him to see me without makeup. I knew it was wrong, but I still slept in my foundation because I was so self conscious. I would wake up, look in the mirror, and have new zits on my face simply because I slept in my foundation. Allowing your skin time to breath and heal without having pores clogged up with chemicals is important and necessary. Our skin rebuilds and replenishes during sleep, so just let the makeup go and be natural. You are better off for it.
Do Not Work Out in Your Makeup - Working out causes us to sweat! This is great for cleansing and emptying the pores. However, if you have a face full of makeup the sweat actually causes more congestion when it combines with your foundation. Use your gym session as a time to detox!
Do Not Cake On Your Makeup - If you have a major breakout you may feel the need to really cake on the makeup to get the coverage you want. Be careful with this though. Often times wearing too much can actually make your acne seem worse. Try covering your problem spots with more foundation but leave the skin that is blemish free with only a light covering of makeup. This will give you a more natural look.
My tip to you is go natural when you can and as often as you can because your skin will thank you. Do not feel the need to constantly hide and cover up. It is damaging to your skin and your self-esteem. You are not your acne!
