How Celebrities Prep Their Skin for Winter

December 15, 2014

How do those actors and actresses keep their skin looking so flawless during all those events they go to?

It’s actually not all Photoshop,  but celebs do have the luxury of having an arsenal of dermatologists working for them, and not to mention they probably don’t have to break a sweat when dropping a thousand dollars on a facial treatment.

Find out how celebrities take care of their skin in the winter and see what alternatives there are for most people who aren’t celebrities.

Dealing with Acne and Acne Scars

A lot of celebrities suffer from acne scarring and breakouts too,  people like Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Britney spears, and Kristen Stewart have some acne scarring.  When a breakout occurs, celebrities use photodynamic therapy by applying an amino acid and shining a blue light on their face for an hour to shrink a pimple, and can cost a thousand dollars.  To remove scarring, celebrities typically get a laser treatment which can cost $500 to $1000 for a treatment.

The alternative  - When you have something important coming up like a wedding, graduation, or photoshoot and you discover you have a huge breakout that you don’t want ruining your day, you can visit a dermatologist for a cortisone shot, but it does come with some risks.  A cortisone shot can cause atrophy in your skin, which can cause a dent so make sure you see a dermatologist you trust if you want to get this shot.   It should get rid of the pimple or cyst within 36 hours so the sooner you can get treatment the better!

For preventive measure, use a face wash or mask containing sulfur because sulfur will soak up oil and dry up pimples, this is most likely the safest and cheapsest method.

For scarring,  you can use a MicroSkin Roller from Banish.  Using this roller and serum 1-2 times a month on scars will build up more collagen so it can fill in any scarring, while removing hyper pigmentation too.

Exfoliate even in the winter!

This is a must for celebrities because they often have to wear heavy makeup, or do a lot of traveling so their skin takes a beating without much time to breathe.  Some celebrities will pay $400 to get their skin exfoliated with lasers, or fruit acids.

The alternative – You can use something like exfoliating beads, but if that is too harsh  on your skin or if you have a lot of active acne, you can try using a pumpkin enzyme mask to exfoliate.  The pumpkin enzymes do all the work and you won’t aggravate any acne which could cause worse skin.  You can find an organic pumpkin enzyme mask here.

Combating Dry Skin

Celebrities like Lea Michele like to go in for an hour long oxygen treatment facial which gives the skin hyaluronate – a natural lubricant.  These facials can cost $250 each but not to worry there are alternatives.

The alternative- You can make a DIY moisturizing mask by mixing honey with rolled oats, apply the mask on your face for 10 to 15 minutes and then wipe off and rinse.

Use Argan Oil.  All you need is 2 to 3 drops a night to give your skin moisture and a healthy glow.  and it won’t cause any breakouts!

Super damaged skin

Sometimes before we knew the dangers of sun on our skin, we may have gotten a little burned in the sun and now your skin just looks worn down in the Winter.  Celebrities often have to deal with areas that have high pollution which can damage skin too.  Celebrities use custom creams containing Vitamins C, A, or E because they are very powerful antioxidants that fight free-radicals to protect your skin’s collagen.  They also can reverse damage!

The Alternative: Find a moisturizer or a serum containing these antioxidants and vitamins at your local drugstore.   The Vitamin C, E, and Ferulic Serum from Banish is a great alternative  at $49 dollars.

What is your biggest skin care issue in the winter?  I tend to get both oily and dry skin at the same time which is not fun with makeup on, but follow these tips to keep your skin as clear, radiant, and healthy as possible!
