Nugg Beauty: Natural Skincare for Insanely Soft Skin
by Kali Kushner

Whether it’s walkingthroughthe natural beauty isles at Target or through scrolling througha beauty influencers profile, we’ve all seen or heard aboutNuggBeautyat onepoint in our lives. PersonallyI always saw it as another one of those Instagram gimmicks that I wasn’t really convinced would work. So, naturally whenNugg Beauty reached out to me I was more than eager to review their masksand see if they lived up to the hype, for my sake and for yours. Let me just sayafter trying three of their most popular masks my opinion has slightly changed, to say the least).

what is nugg beauty?

Nugg Beauty isa skincare brand that is committed to using (mostly) natural ingredients and technology. I say mostly because their products are typically contain90% natural ingredients or higher. What makesNugg Beauty unique though is theinnovativetechnology behind their products, callednaturaloildispersion technology. This technology utilizesthenatural physical properties of the ingredients rather thanharsh chemicals, leading to effective but gentle skincare.

Natural oildispersion works by using a high pressure technologytoequallycombine both water and oil particlesin micro amounts to allow for naturaloils to be effectively delivered tothe skin. This processeliminates the need for chemical emulsifiers to bond tothe ingredients which can sometimes irritate the skin. That being said,NuggBeauty is dedicated to usingno chemical emulsifiers,no fragrances, nosynthetic chemicals, and noparabens. They don’t test on animals ANDtheir masking cups are made fromPETG, being completely recyclable.Their masks also come in confident travel sized pods, perfect for single use and on the go masking, keeping the product fresh until use.

*Below are my reviews on each specificNugg Beauty mask, the claims surrounding the product, and a rating based on overall effectiveness*

Nugg BeautyDetoxifying Charcoal Mask4/5

This mask is recommended for those who have oily skin, combination skin, and acne prone skin. Charcoal has the ability to absorb 100-200 times it’s weight in excess oil and gunk, leaving your face super clean and balanced feeling while oatmeal is great for calming irritated skin. This mask also contains aloe juice which is great for soothing, and oddly enough, italsocontains zinc.

While I did enjoy this mask, I don’t think it did anythingfor my acne. It left my skin feeling really insanely soft afterwords but I felt my pores appeared the same size. I didn’t like the texture at all, it was gel like and super sticky even after drying down. Because of the texture though, it was easier to remove than a clay based mask.It didn’t make me breakout but it didn’t help with my breakouts either. I think perhaps I would I need to try the mask out a few more times but to me, personally, I didn’t find it to be super amazing acne busting product. If you’re looking for something to soothe your skin and give you a nice soft texture, this is definitely it BUT for fighting breakouts- not so much.

Nugg BeautyDeep Cleansing Cucumber Extract and Jojoba Oil Mask 5/5

This mask claims to befor deep cleaning and “shine free” skin, recommended for all skin types. It works to absorb shine while alsohydrating and soothing the skin. It’s extremely gentle and hydrating containing both CucumberExtractand Jojoba Oil to naturally tone andsoothe the skin. This mask also uses98% oil dispersion technology for optimum gentle and effective hydration.

This mask issooooo good. It’s no wonder it’sa third time award winner in Allures best of beauty. I didn’t exactly find this mask to be deep cleaning, but again it was so great for hydration. My skin wasinsanelysoft for about three days after using this mask and where my usual dry patches vanished in thin air. The proof is definitelyin the pudding on this one.

It doesn’t have a strong overwhelming scent, but rather smelling slightly clean and fresh.Ialso like that this mask didn’t have a sticky or over drying texture, it was rather creamy which I found to be interesting for a mask. It’s sort of like putting a lot of moisturizer on really thick then after about 15 minutes rinsing it off. I don’t think I’ve ever used a mask that is so hydrating but also didn’t leave a greasy or oily residue on my face. If you suffer from dry skin or just looking to amp up the moisture levels I’d definitely give the CucumberExtract mask a go, you won’t regret it!

Nugg BeautyExfoliating Cranberry Seed Oil and Jojoba Beads Mask 3/5

The Cranberry Seed Oil and Jojoba Bead mask is targeted towards exfoliationto reveal brighter, healthier looking skin.It is recommended fordry, dull, combination, and aging skin.Thecranberry seed oilworks against agingby protecting the skin from free radicals while the jojoba oil beads allow for a slow release of moisture without over irritating the skin like most scrubs. It is 93% natural with a gel based formula that uses natural oil dispersion technology.

In my own opinion, I wasn’t crazy about this mask. I think from this whole experience what I’ve learned is that I don’t like gel based masks or ones that dry super sticky. And I especially don’t like the feeling of beads on my skin, it wasn’t harsh orirritating but rather a bit sticky and messy.I didn’t notice any immediate results after using it in terms of balancing tone, texture, reducing spots or even calming redness- but again, like the other masks it left my skinsooooooosoft.

I gave this mask a 3/5 because I didn’t feel that it lived up to the claims of an exfoliating mask. Typically what I like to see is a reduction in redness, acne, or an overall consistency with skin tone which I feel this mask did not provide. Again, it’ll leave your skinsuper softbut maybe not the best for exfoliation!
