Benefits of Pumpkin for Your Skin

Why is pumpkin so popular?

Pumpkin is a fall favorite treat for a lot of people.  Fresh pumpkin pie, pumpkin spiced latte, and the smell of pumpkin bread baking in the oven just feels so warm and comforting.   Don’t let any extra pumpkin go to waste though.  Did you know that pumpkin has amazing benefits for your skin too? Pumpkin haters out there should give it a chance. 

Pumpkins contain enzymes that act as alpha hydroxy acids which increase cell turnover rate to brighten your skin.   This means that any overly pigmented cells will get removed faster so that fresh new cells can take its place.

Pumpkin is also chock full of vitamins A and C, which are antioxidants that protect your skin.  These vitamins are also crucial for your skin to make new collagen which is a great anti-aging benefit.

Pumpkin molecules are especially small so they can penetrate deeper into your skin when you use it as a mask or scrub.   The small size of the molecules means that pumpkin can transport those healthy enzymes and vitamins further in your skin to get the greatest benefits for your skin.

Here’s an easy DIY recipe for a pumpkin scrub:

Mix a tablespoon or two of cooked and mashed pumpkin with 2 tablespoons of unsweetened plain yogurt and a tablespoon of oats.  Apply a thick layer and let it sit on your face for a couple minutes  and then using your fingers, scrub it on your face in circlular motions.  When you’re done , gently wipe it off (so you won’t clog your sink with oats) , and rinse.
