Avocados are among one of the most useful (and trendy) ingredients on the market today. We put them in our smoothies, use them in hair masks, and spread them across toast; so, it is no surprise this superfood is great for our skin too. When applied as a face mask, avocados boast a range of benefits:
Avocados are completely natural, free of chemicals and other synthetic ingredients that are found in many store-bought beauty products
Great for acne prone, dry, and sensitive skin (both applied topically and when consumed orally)
Has the ability to reach deep in the layers of skin to improve overall elasticity and moisture
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids and other antioxidants like vitamin A, B,K, and E which all work to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin
Heals acne and inflammation by exfoliating the skin and decreasing overall oil production
Highly anti-aging, avocados eliminates oxidative stress and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles
Which brings me to my last point, avocados are cost effective and a DIY mask can easily be made at home with ingredients laying around in your kitchen!
Here are 3 easy avocado face masks that can be thrown together with just 3 ingredients
*For each of these masks, mash or blend together the ingredients until smooth. Apply a thin layer and let dry for 8-10 minutes. Store any leftovers in the fridge and use within 3 days.
Avocado, Hemp Oil & Lemon Acne Busting Mask
Ingredients:
½ Avocado mashed
½ tablespoon hemp oil
1 tsp lemon juice
This mask is great for moisturizing due to both the avocado and hemp oil. The lemon will reduce inflammation, redness, and contains anti bacterial properties to help fight off acne and scarring. Hemp oil has a strong balance of omega 3 and omega 6, great for eczema and acne.
Oats, Avocado & Honey Calming Mask
Ingredients:
½ Avocado mashed
1 tblspn raw organic honey
1/8 cup (uncooked) oatmeal
This mask is great for calming dry or sensitive skin, while offering a slight exfoliation. The avocado and honey will both work to deeply moisturize dry skin while oatmeal balances redness and calms eczema & inflammation. Use a gentle circular motion after the mask sits on your face for about 10 minutes, allowing the oatmeal to act as a natural exfoliator.
Avocado, Egg, & Banana Anti Aging Mask
Ingredients:
½ Avocado mashed
1 egg white
½ mashed banana
This mask proves to be an excellent option for anti aging! Avocados work to fight off free radicals that cause fine lines and wrinkles on the skin, while egg whites tighten the skin, shrink large pores, and lift sagging skin. Bananas promote clear, glowing skin through the strong amount of vitamins E & C and antioxidant properties.
