This one is for the guys. Look, I know you probably don’t love talking about skincare, but these tips will help you take care of your skin.
Skincare isn’t just about what you slather your skin with or what you put in your body, but it’s also about how you physically treat your skin. This isn’t just an exercise in being proactive for your epidermis’s health, but an exercise in being mindful.
With our busy schedules sometimes we forget to take care of what the world see’s first – our face. These aren’t tips to remind you to moisturize, cleanse or exfoliate, but tips that you may not think would necessarily affect your face.
1. Wash Your Pillowcases Regularly
We sometimes forget that we spend a majority of our lives on our beds. We spend eight hours a night with our heads rested on our pillows. And if you’re like me, you like to move positions a lot. Going from sleeping on your back to shoving your face into the pillow, in minutes. All this fidgeting can affect your skin’s health as well. All the oil and residue from your day can build up on your pillow. This makes it important for you to wash it regularly, so you can keep your skin squeaky clean.
2. Manage Your Sweat
You see those guys at the gym who are power-squatting and bench pressing then wiping the sweat off with an old towel or worse; using the sleeves of their t-shirts. By using a dirty ragged towel on your face and by rubbing it aggressively you could reintroduce bacteria and sweat into your pores. It could also create scarring on your face. This is why it is important that when you go to the gym always use a fresh, clean towel. When you wipe off your face with the towel be mindful and do it softly and carefully. Go for a dab like motion so you don’t tug on your skin. When looking for a towel go for something, like a microfiber one, that you can easily fit in your hand and in your pocket. This will allow you to carry it during your set. Also, invest in something like a headband to keep the sweat at bay.
3. It’s All About the Night Time
The most important time for a person’s skin care is night time. This is because your skin regenerates itself as it rests as you sleep. It really puts that saying “beauty sleep” into perspective. It’s best to do things that are a little more abrasive to your skin at this time because it gives your skin time to heal. Things like exfoliating, or face masks are best when done right before bed. Also, products that contain retinol should be done before bed because it increases your skin’s photosensitivity, putting your skin at risk for sun damage.
4. Drinking Plenty of Water
I know I am beating a dead horse here. Everybody from your mother to every celebrity has told you a key to general good health is drinking lots of water. But I am just reminding you dude, drink up. Just know that not only is it saving your epidermis, but take solace in the fact that it is also helping you fight cancer, regulate your moods, keep your bowel movements regular and it’s all completely free. If you can’t keep up with drinking water maybe you need some help drinking it. You could get a reusable water bottle. Maybe even look up some fruit infusing tips to keep your water delicious. Whatever the solution, use this low-cost method to keep yourself and your skin healthy.
We’re busier than ever so this one can be a tricky one. But most guys can attest to when you’re schedule starts to get packed and your to-do list bigger, the first victim is your skin. Managing your stress levels becomes crucial because if we don’t, it can lead to emotional eating, terrible sleep schedules, and the worst – picking your scars. Most people with acne scars know the risks of picking at your pimples, but when we are working on something, we can unconsciously touch and probe our skin. It could feel therapeutic in the moment to touch your face, but this habit can lead to marks that take years to erase. The best way to solve this is to be mindful. By taking a deep breath, and being in the moment to acknowledge our emotions we can realize how much we touch our face which can allow us to a stop to it.
