Is Diet Linked to Youthful Skin?

by:Amanda Ennett

You can put all of the products that you want on your face but you will never see real change until you start eating healthier.

Face it. Life isn’t easy. Losing weight isn’t easy. Having really great skin isn’t easy. But anything worth having is worth working for. To most, eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and getting adequate sleep is hard. But it is hard work that is well rewarded in due time.

A healthy diet is vital for healthy skin, hair, body, and mind. When we eat junk we feel like junk. Eating foods that are void of nutrients will leave your skin dull, wrinkly, and grey.

If you are new to healthy eating, stick to the basics. Strive to eat many colorful fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies contain vitamins, minerals, and phyto-nutrients (plant stuff) that make your skin stronger, healthier, and nourished. Plant based foods are also packed with antioxidants, which fight free radicals keeping the skin damage free and radiant.

Specifically, when it comes to beautiful skin, you want to eat foods that are really green, orange, and yellow. These colors are skin beautifiers that work to prevent blemishes and wrinkles. They also make your skin stronger and more elastic.

Yellows tend to have collagen promoters Vitamin C and Sulfur, which are necessary for collagen formation giving the skin its structure and strength.

Oranges are loaded with Vitamin A, which promotes cell growth and replenishes dull skin making your skin’s complexion fair, soft, and shining.

Greens contain hefty doses of silica, which strengthens and increases our skin’s elasticity; and Vitamin K, which prevents calcification of our skin’s elastin, the protein that gives skin the ability to spring back, smoothing out lines and wrinkles.

In addition to fruits and vegetables try to eat healthy fats. To name a few, healthy fats come in the form of nuts and seeds, olives or coconut oils, fish, and avocadoes. They contain essential fatty acids that our bodies cannot make but are important for keeping skin supple. Omega-6s help prevent skin dryness to maintain healthy and hydrated skin and Omega-3s nourish your skin for radiance and add softness to your complexion.

And finally, we need lean proteins to promote youthful skin. Your muscles, hair, nails, skin and eyes are made of protein and dietary proteins are necessary for tissue repair and for the construction of new tissue. Every cell needs protein to maintain its life; find low fat proteins in chicken, eggs, fish, lean meat, and beans.

So yes, diet is linked to youthful skin. Knowing that it is also linked to poor skin, make the most of your efforts by eating healthier and eat your way to radiance.
