Bone broth isn’t anything new, in fact it’s been around for thousands of years. There’s a reason why we’re always told to eat chicken noodle soup when feeling under the weather, bone broth is extremely healing and nourishing to our bodies providing us with glycine, gelatin, calcium, protein, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin D, potassium, zinc, manganese, copper, boron, iron, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, and B vitamins just to name a few.

The bone broth trend has been booming lately, with claims of people healing their guts all the way to clearing up their skin- it tends to be a “miracle cure” for a variety of different ailments. How is it made?

Virtually every bone broth is built on the same foundation: water, meat (or bones), vegetables, and seasoning. The bones are typically first roasted to improve the overall flavor of the bone broth and then they are simmered for a very long time, usually anywhere from 8 hours to more than 24. The purpose of bone broth is to produce gelatin from the collagen filled joints and release trace minerals from the bones. 1- Heal your gut: Perhaps the most well known (and some would arguable say number one benefit) to drinking bone broth is healing your gut. A cup of bone broth daily can heal and seal leaky gut AND protect those tummies without leaky gut. The gelatin in the bones is said to plug up holes in intestines and restore the gut lining. Overtime, with an improved gut research has shown bone broth can be used to heal food allergies or intolerances (specifically to dairy and wheat) and improve overall probiotic count in the stomach.
