Baking soda is something most people usually have in their cupboards. We mostly use it for baking or preparing something we want to raise, like bread or dumplings. These are not its only uses, though. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a natural substance that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. Its acidic nature makes it a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment. It can be used for fighting acne and pimples, brightening yellow or dull teeth, improving skin complexion, relieving sunburns or blisters, treating yellow nails, treating smelly or oily hair, treating body odor, and removing dandruff. When used for treating acne, people usually mix the baking soda with another natural skin lightener, such as lemons or tomatoes.
Here are a few baking soda masks and treatments for acne scars:
Baking Soda Mask #1
Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture onto your face in a circular motion, with your fingers or with a cotton ball. Let the mixture dry on your face and then leave it on for 5 minutes. Wash your face with slightly warm water and apply a moisturizer. You can repeat this 2 times a week to see results without drying out your face.
Baking Soda Mask #2
Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water. Apply the mixture onto your face in a circular motion, with your fingers or with a cotton ball. Leave the mixture on overnight and wash your face in the morning. Apply a moisturizer so that your face does not become dry, as the baking soda has been on your face for a long time.
Baking Soda Cleanser
Mix a small amount of baking soda into your palm mixed with your daily cleanser. Massage the cleanser onto your face and leave on for 5 minutes. Wash with slightly warm water and apply a moisturizer.
Baking Soda, Cinnamon and Honey Mask
Mix a small amount of baking soda and cinnamon into 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply this mixture to your face and leave this mask on for 20 minutes. Wash the mask off and use either a moisturizer or olive oil to add moisture back into your skin.
