Best Organic Skincare Ingredients For Acne

best organic skincare ingredients for acne

Who says that treating acne-prone skin is fun? Maybe not many, but skincare can be a fun part of your self care ritual.

When it comes to taking care of our skin, we want what is best yet we want it to be easy. We purchase a lot of skincare products one after the other without checking the labels if the ingredients are really right for your skin condition and type.

Most often, we also prefer getting our skincare recommendations based on social media platforms like Instagram where we mimic a celebrity's skincare routine. But everyone's skin is different and you should pick what works for you and what you are comfortable with.

Sometimes, the mainstream products are what you usually see available, but did you know there are many organic skincare options and ingredients for acne?

Here's a general guide on some organic skincare ingredients to look for that are great for healing acne.

For Oily Skin

For those people blessed with a normal skin type, it does not mean that they don't get the occasional acne breakout. If your skin type is usually normal but you are getting redness, reactions, dryness or dryness then you may be suffering from sensitized skin. The best routine for oily skin includes cleansing every night and morning with a gentle cleanser and providing adequate moisture as well as sun protection.

Recommended organic skincare ingredients for oily skin

  • Organic Aloe vera
  • Organic Jojoba oil
  • Chamomile Extract

Organic aloe vera helps with surface level acne and has mild exfoliating properties.

Organic Jojoba oil can help when skin is imbalanced, so if it’s going into oil production overdrive, jojoba oil seems to help skin signal not to produce extra sebum to help reduce acne.  Don't forget to apply a light water based moisturizer after, possibly something with water and aloe vera as a base.

Chamomile extract is not only great for oily, but for sensitive skin too. It’s used to treat skin irritation, and it has a soothing and softening effect on skin which can greatly benefit acne prone skin. We recommend the all clear mint cleanser since it contains this ingredient and is great for cleansing oily skin without overly drying.

For Sensitive Skin

Your skin can be your greatest opponent when it's breaking out.  Majority of people who have acne fall under the sensitive skin category. Treating acne and skin blemishes is especially delicate if your skin's easily irritated and reactive to new products, dry or humid weather, or changing hormones. Many acne treatments contain ingredients and preservatives that irritate all skin types, especially sensitive skin. If this sounds like you, consider organic skincare products with ingredients that usually don’t irritate skin to effectively fight acne with natural ingredients.

Recommended organic ingredients for sensitive skin:

Willow Bark Extract is a source of salicylates, which can be converted into salicylic acid. It has inflammation and redness reducing properties, while not as potent at fighting acne as pure salicylic acid, it still has benefits and may cause less irritation on sensitive skin.  But if you have an allergy to aspirin, it’s best to avoid it since it’s in the same family.

Dimethyl sulfone is an organic sulfur compound which has been our favorite ingredient to greatly fight inflammation and redness. This helps to improve skin quality and reduce acne or help speed the healing process of new acne.

Organic blueberry fruit extract has antioxidant properties because of the high polyphenol components. Blueberries are also high in vitamins A, C, which all help with acne and reducing the hyperpigmentation that happens after acne. Products that contain organic blueberry fruit extract include the Vitamin C Creme.  Banish’s Vitamin C Creme contains several different fruit extracts as well such as bilberry, and cranberry.

Manuka Honey has been shown to be effective in reducing acne by suppressing over 60 types of bacteria, and drawing moisture out of wounds to speed healing.  Honey is not likely to cause a reaction, but test first to make sure. It’s best to use raw unpasteurized honey to get the acne fighting benefits.

Taking care of your sensitive skin is not easy and even identifying it is equally confusing. But pay attention to how your skin looks and feels throughout the day, as well as how it reacts to different changes.  If you feel burning sensations when applying over the counter acne treatments or even just when using a regular moisturizer, notice a red rash, or extra peeling then it’s possible your skin is sensitive.

For Dry/Dehydrated Skin

Our skin can get dry or dehydrated for many reasons ranging from diet, sun damage, aging, and environment. Acne products can be harsh and dry out skin especially if you are using prescription strength products daily or a mix of several treatments.

Dry skin is characterized as flaky, scaly, or rough. Dry skin also often feels tight especially right after cleansing. You can have dry skin that appears oily and have dry skin and acne at the same time.  If your skin is flaking but there is a layer of oil, it is likely you have dehydrated skin.  Skin is dry because it is lacking water, not oil. Applying an oil without a proper moisturizer is not recommended if you have dry skin.

Dry skin has a damaged moisture barrier and if you’re someone with this skin type, your skin has little cracks in it, allowing the moisture to escape and irritants and bacteria to enter into your skin easily. When skin is dry, your skin may produce more sebum as a defense mechanism which can lead to clogged pores and acne.

Recommended organic skincare ingredients for dry/dehydrated skin:

Vegetable glycerin is a great humectant base for skincare products that is gentle and non irritating. The protecting factors can help calm acne prone skin versus other humectants that may potentially cause more inflammation in already sensitive skin.

Organic aloe vera - aloe vera is a water based ingredient that can help with acne because of it’s mild exfoliating properties, but pair it with a moisturizer if using on it’s own, or in a product formulation that has water or other humectants to keep skin hydrated.

The pumpkin enzyme masque is a good option to treat acne without drying out skin. It’s high in Vitamin A from the raw pumpkin fruit, it isn’t drying like most other skincare products for acne. It also exfoliates skin with the natural pumpkin enzymes, and it contains glycolic acid to prevent and heal acne.

The Banish Oil is a vitamin c serum made with vegetable glycerin and water, to hydrate and draw water into the skin. It also contains some oils like rosehip oil to help trap the water into skin plus these ingredients greatly help with reducing and healing acne scars on dry skin.

Know how much time you need and which products work because everybody’s skin is different. At the end of the day, we all have a similar goal which is to look after our skin, reduce acne, and this really does require an investment as someone that has tried tons of different products, remedies, pills, and diets.

It may take a little extra effort, but switching to organic skincare products with these organic ingredients for  acne and acne prone skin can help. Of course make sure you aren’t using any products that have an ingredient that you may be allergic to.
