skincare products that work for acne

11 Best Products That Work For Acne

A lot of people get acne and a lot have an ongoing battle with acne. Acne affects about 85% of the population between ages 12 and 25 years old, with many experiencing some degree of acne scarring as a result.

Acne Vulgaris, or commonly known as acne, is a common skin disease that occurs when sebum and dead skin cells clog up your pores and become infected.

It is a common problem for teenagers and adults. Without proper treatment, dark spots and scars can appear on the skin and cause further complications such as low self-esteem and depression.

How do we find skin care products that work for our acne-prone skin and how do we determine what are the products that work and what are the products that don’t?

Skincare, and the process of treating acne in particular, are ongoing processes that take time, consistency, and plenty of experimentation.

Understanding your skin type is equally important. Acne skincare products are often marketed to those with oily skin, but even those with dry skin can suffer from acne. If you identify with the latter, you’ll want to choose ingredients that aren’t as drying, like salicylic acid instead of benzoyl peroxide.

It’s also important to know that if your skin’s moisture barrier has been damaged, it could increase your risk of encountering a negative reaction to skin care products designed for acne.

People with acne seek for a perfect treatment that will help control their acne and balance their skin, however when doing so, they may end up ruining their faces even more and of course; that isn’t the goal to begin with.

Despite the numerous products out there, there are some that work for people and some that don't. Since we either have: dry, oily, sensitive or normal skin making us unique, it also makes it difficult to find a solution to curing skin problems.

To find the right acne treatment, most are required to visit a dermatologist who tends to prescribe us to a certain skin care. Down below are some treatments that may or may not benefit your skin and acne.

I have oily skin, but I find my skin tightens up and dries out easily so I can’t use a harsh cleanser, not even the “natural and gentle” Aveeno cleanser. I find simple and gentle works for me, which is why I reached for this cleanser. A 16 ounce bottle (around $10 at the drugstore) lasts me around 6 months.

Nevertheless, not all people can use Cetaphil because it might turn out their acne but you never know if you don’t give it a shot.

8. La Roche Posay Effaclar Clay Mask – This skin care product claims to remove excess oil, refine pore appearance, helps your skin stay matted and less oily and tested for acne-prone skin (non-comedogenicity test).

It feels thick and luxurious on your skin so you'll feel like you're at a spa. It also makes a fabulous facial mask for reducing the appearances of pores, toning skin, and removing impurities. A cruelty-free product.

11. Neutrogena Acne Proofing Scrub Neutrogena Acne Proofing Scrub is the perfect scrub to use after removing make-up as it helps remove the make-up that is still lingering in your pores. It has the active acne fighting ingredient of salicylic acid. However, be careful not to use scrubs too often since this can irritate current acne.

Signs that the skin care products work well for your acne would reflect on how well your skin reacts to it. It's recommended to give the product at least 30 days to see if there is a difference since that's how long it can take for a full skin cell renewal cycle.

If a product works well, your skin will start to reduce in the amount of active breakouts, redness and irritation.

There’s never a 100% guarantee that everything will work out in the end, but becoming more knowledgeable about the science of skincare considerably lowers the risk of bad shopping decisions.

Dealing with acne is no easy task, and so is finding the products that would work for acne. We’re all different, have different bodies, different skin and sometimes you just have to experiment and find what works for you!

Patience is key.
