Topical Gels, Prescriptions, and DIY acne remedies. Which worked?

By Alvina Chowdury

If I can remember all the products I’ve used thus far in my life, now that will be something.  Why you ask?  Because that’s how many products I have used to clear up my skin since I was twelve years old.  Okay, let’s begin and see if I can remember.  I’ve used Benzoyl Peroxide 5%, and then switched off to Benzoyl Peroxide 10% because I needed something stronger.  I’ve also been on Minoxicyclin, Amoxicillin, Clindamycin topical lotion and gel, Proactive kit, Acne Free kit, Tazorac, Retin-A, Renu 28, another prescription that was a roll on liquid medication, and now I am currently on birth control.  Home remedies I’ve used is, turmeric, honey, apple cider vinegar, nutmeg, activated charcoal with Aloe Vera, avocado mask, and lemon juice.  I’ve used almost everything in the book, and yet I’ve never seen a dramatic difference.  Sure, these products have improved my skin but not worth the amount of money I’ve spent on them.  This is everything I’ve used without me spending $1500 on acne treatments at the spa.  Benzoyl Peroxide is something I’ve used since I was twelve and continue to use because it helps a big pimple shrink over-night but it’s not a miracle worker.  Minoxicillin and Amoxicillin gave me no help and instead only made me nauseous and very hungry all the time.  Clindamycin topic lotion did nothing for me, the gel on the other hand might have helped but I’m not sure as I was using other products as well.  Proactive helped my temporarily while Acne Free broke me out insanely, with bloody pimples all over my cheeks.

Tazorac is the most expensive prescription ($300) and it did absolutely nothing for me.  Retin-A helped me peel skin to reproduce new skin, it did an okay job.

Renu 28, hydrated my skin and helped with scarring, I am currently on and off with this product.  The roll on liquid prescription did absolutely nothing for me.  Birth control has kept me under control though I do still break out.  I have been on birth control for almost two years now.

Furthermore, turmeric mixed with honey and lemon helped brighten my skin but did not take my scars away.  Apple cider vinegar would shrink my pimples but would leave a brutal mark.  Nutmeg with honey did not help my scarring as it claims.  Activated charcoal with Aloe Vera broke my face out and pulled all my pimples out.  Avocado mask mixed with honey, sea salt, and lemon did absolutely nothing for my acne but potentially made my face softer.

With everything I have used, I am really hoping and having faith that the BANISH roller will make a difference in my life and really take away all the scarring I have.  I still have pimples and still continue to get new ones but I am now not only left with acne scarring, but I am left with bigger pores than ever.  If BANISH acne scars can solve my problems and my insecurities with my skin, allowing me to potentially leave my home without my BB cream, I will probably cry out of joy.

Has banish helped your skin? I'm tired of trying so many acne products with little to no results.
