Egg Whites For Acne Scars

I’m one person among the millions of teenagers in the world who suffered from acne. When I was still in high school, my acne was like small bumps. My acne started to get worse on my cheeks, or sometimes on my forehead, but I didn’t really care about it at all, until I noticed that my acne started leaving a lot of dark acne scars behind.

I remember my mother told me to use egg whites for acne scars as a mask. I was like, “My face is not a frying pan, duh…” and then my mom said, “It’s worth a try.”

So is the claim about an egg white mask really beneficial for acne scars?

Can Egg White Benefit Acne Scars?

A home DIY egg white mask can supposedly help with brightening up dark marks, balance the skins oil production, add hydration to the skin, and even help with acne!  How true are these claims though?

How The Proteins Of Egg White Can Benefit Acne

Egg white contains a protein called iysozyme that has potential acne fighting properties since it can break down common acne causing bacteria, but won't really do much for acne scars.

An egg white mask also has humectant properties from it's proteins meaning it will help skin retain water in the skin and absorb moisture.  This effect is temporary and increasing the skin hydration may help skin look more plumper.  Hydrated skin is generally healthier too and can help soothe inflammation in the skin.

While egg whites do have some skin and acne preventing properties, there's not a whole lot of evidence that it can help with acne scarring.

Egg White Mask For Acne

If you want to do a DIY egg white mask for acne, follow the simple recipe and guideline below!

This is how I made the egg whites for acne :
- Wash your face
- Take one chicken egg
- Break the egg
- Separate the yolk and the whites of the egg
- Take only the egg white
- Put egg white in a small bowl
- Use a clean brush to rub a thin later of the egg whites onto your face
- Leave on for 10-15 minutes and wash off

If you want to make an egg white mask and you have active acne and acne scars, just break an egg, separate the egg white and brush the egg white onto your face.  It might feel a little uncomfortable as the egg dries but that’s okay! Relax for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water. Good luck!
