Less is More

Less is More

By: Liz

I’ve always been a product junkie. I often binge online for new products that claim they are the cure all for acne. I am known for jumping from one skincare product to the next just hoping for an acne miracle. After about month of using a new product, I would realize that my skin had only gotten worse and was more irritated than ever. Finally, I switched to the oil cleansing method (which I love and recommend) and I have seen a huge improvement in my skin. There are no harsh chemicals in the oils that I use and I have found that my skin is much smoother, softer, and clearer. However, I came across and article from Tracy Raft, author of The Love Vitamin, where Tracy encourages her readers to adopt the belief that “less is more.”

Tracy struggled with hormonal acne, but through changing her diet and skin care regimen, has found a way to combat hormonal acne and have beautiful skin! Of course, I wanted to know what she was doing, so I did a little research on her website. With her “less is more” approach, Tracy simply uses a manuka honey mask as her cleanser once a day and uses jojoba oil as her moisturizer. I was a little skeptical as I thought putting honey, or sugar, on my face would only irritate it more. Eating sugar is not good for your skin, so how could putting a form of sugar directly on my face help at all? However, I was so amazed at Tracy’s before and after pictures so and knew I had to give this whole honey mask a shot.

I started using Wedderspoon’s Organic 100% Raw Manuka Honey (Active 16+) as a face mask every night. This is the only time of the day that I wash my face as Tracy also recommends washing your face only once per day, two times at the most. I leave the mask on for 30 minutes (if I have time) and rinse with lukewarm water. I moisturize with a pea size amount of jojoba oil (a little goes a long way) and that’s it! My skin feels so soft and smooth after this process and my skin actually has a nice glow. My skin adjusted well to this new regimen and I do not recall any new breakouts during the first couple of weeks. I am happy with the results I have had and I plan on sticking with this system for as long as my skin will let me!
